Audi work hard to ensure that electric driving is always a pleasure, not a compromise. This year they are demonstrating the Audi e-tron quattro concept at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, a sporty SUV that is the brand's first large-series electric car.
The concept has been designed from the ground up as an electric car and follows the Audi "Aerosthetics" concept, combining technical measures for reducing drag with creative design solutions. Aerodynamic elements at the front, on the side and at the rear are movable and have the ability to improve air flow around the car. With a cd value of 0.25, the Audi e-tron quattro concept sets a new record in the SUV segment and also has a long range of more than 500km.
The study is based on the second-generation modular longitudinal platform, which provides excellent scope for both the drive system and package. The length of the car is between that of a Q5 and a Q7 and the typical SUV body and coupe-like cabin gives the Audi e-tron quattro concept a dynamic appearance with a spacious interior that offers room for four people.
The large lithium-ion battery is positioned between the axles and below the passenger compartment which gives this model a low centre of gravity and a balanced axle load distribution. This in turn gives the car better driving dynamics and driving safety that othe vehicles in this segment.
Audi has used experience gained with the electrically driven Audi R8 e-tron sports car for the drive system. Three electric motors (one on the front axle and two on the rear) drive the Audi e-tron quattro concept and make it an electrified quattro ensuring it's efficient and dynamic at all times.
