Audi showcases powerful duo at the Detroit Motor Show

Audi have showcased their automotive prowess at the North American International Audi Show (NAIAS) in Detroit by unveiling some of this year's innovative highlights. The Audi Q8 concept car and the Audi A5/S5 Cabriolet were both on display demonstrating the superior innovation, design and technology Audi are known for.

The Audi Q8 concept

The Audi Q8 concept showcases the next level in prestige and sportiness, combining the typical spaciousness of an SUV with the emotional styling of a coupe. As well as tapping in to a new segment in the full-size category, Audi are offering a preview of its future direction in design styling. The exceptionally flat and wide C pillars and the powerful, flared shoulders over the wheels are just some of the design elements reminiscent of Audi's original Ur-quattro from the 1980s. Despite having a flat roofline, the concept car offers plenty of space for four people along with lots of luggage, with broad lines that create a sporty yet elegant interior. The new control concept uses large touchscreens, supported by an enhanced Audi virtual cockpit and a contact analogue head-up display that uses intelligent augmented reality technology to merge virtual indicators with the real world. This technology, for example, will make navigation arrows appear in the same position as an actual arrow on the street. High end technologies from volume production feature in the drive system and suspension. The plug-in hybrid Audi Q8 concept provides a total system output of 330 kW and 700Nm of torque making it powerful and highly efficient. Power is delivered through quattro permanent all-wheel drive while air suspensions and ceramic brake discs complete an impressive technology package. The Audi Q8 concept car is the basis for a production model that Audi will introduce in 2018.

The Audi A5/S5 Cabriolet

Following on from the launch of the A5 Coupe and Sportback, Audi have completed the A5 family with the new A5/S5 Cabriolet. The design of the new model is based on the sleek lines of the Coupe. The flatter rear window, short overhangs and the long wraparound hood with power dome all emphasise the sporty look. The soft top delivers fantastic aeroacoustics and now has a convenient opening function with a switch that can open or close the soft top automatically, even while driving up to 50km/h. The latest technical connectivity features and driver assistance systems are also included. As well as this, quattro drive provides the midsize Cabriolet with superb traction and dynamic handling and adaptive dampers are available as an option. All are included in the standard Audi drive select dynamic handling system and allow the driver to choose between a sporty or comfortable driving experience. New engines for the Audi S5 offer powerful performance, with 190 hp in the 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TFSI, and 354 hp in the 3.0 TFSI. The new A5/S5 Cabriolet will be available from Audi Centre in March.
