Audi has hinted that its range of RS high-performance cars could be diesel powered in the future, with a diesel R8 possibly entering production.
At a recent TDI event celebrating Audi's achievements with its diesel models, the brand's chief Rupert Stadler commented: We have been the first to bring a diesel in the SQ5 and why shouldn't we be prepared for the next step? On the RS5 TDI Concept which uses a 3.0-litre BiTDI engine and electric turbo Stadler said: If you feel the heat of the concept you will know the [RS] genetic code is prepared for a lot of things.
The German carmaker will likely be further persuaded to increase its diesel performance car offering, after figures showed that 12 percent of buyers choosing the Q5 SUV opted for the SQ5 TDI variant.
What makes Audi different is that we stick to diesel, even in the V8 segment, where everyone else has pulled out. Stadler commented: People want to have fun but with good fuel consumption and that is something we are working on.
Motorists looking to upgrade their vehicle to a rapid mover, but don't want to compromise on economy and low emissions, would be wise to follow Audi's developments to its potent RS range.
